Camouflage

Jeff was showing Lainey videos of spiders and she told him that one of them was camouflaged. She said that's what it is when something is covered up and hiding- it's camouflaged.

Address. A dress?

Lainey's teacher told me today that they were discussing safety and things like knowing your address and phone number. The teacher asked the class "does anyone here know what their address is?"
She said Lainey stood up, fanned out her skirt and shouted "I do!! It's pink!"

Some recent Lainey words

"Extroy" - destroy
"Heart beep" - heart beat
"Crunches" - crutches
"Steffascope" - stethoscope (she pronounces it better than most adults!)
"Orbee ohs" - Orbeez

And here's a picture of Lainey bowling for the first time, just for fun!

Opposites

Today we were doing opposites in the car. I asked her what the opposite of fuzzy was. She said "Hmm that's going to be a tough one Mom. Hmmm... The opposite of fuzzy is unfuzzy. What's next?"

Cousin Nathaniel

Cousin Nathaniel currently wears his hair in a style that I lovingly refer to as "Jesus style"- long, wavy, and with a braided headband. Lainey wanted to wear her hair like him, and this is the result. It's pretty close!

Poor Dunkin

She told us she was giving him the business. She then proceeded to tell us that she was not going to beat up mom and dad, but she was just going to beat up Dunkin.

Reverse psychology

I just witnessed Lainey using reverse psychology on Jeff. She wanted to play with an umbrella in the house and Jeff told her that it was too big to open in the house and he didn't want her to poke herself with it. The convo went like this:
J- Lainey, that's daddy's golf umbrella and it's too big to play with in the house. And i dont want you to poke yourself with those sharp points. Let's put it away.
L- but I would like to play with it.
J- sorry baby, I said no.
L- okay... but I don't know how to open it. Do you?
J- yes, I know how to open it.
L- okay well..... I don't so would you care to show me?
J- not really, no.
L- because you don't know how?
J- *sigh* let's just put it away please.

Unsharpened pencil

We got Eegees for dinner, and the toy that came with her kids meal was an unsharpened pencil. She looked at it and declared "Hey, it doesn't have a stinger! That's really strange, isn't it? I think they made a mistake Mom."

Quote of the day

Mom, will you clean up my mess for me? I'll help you!

My journey

Lainey handed me her coloring book and crayons today and told me it was time for me to work on my journey. It went like this:
Lainey: Mom, it's time to work on your journey. Do you know what a journey is?

Me: I don't think I do, actually. What is it?

Lainey: it's another word for project. So when I say 'it's time to work on your journey', I'd like for you to work on your coloring book project. Okay? Good job, Mom.

A Sesame Street

Yesterday Lainey hollered "Mom, come quick, there's a Sesame Street in the floor!"
When I ran into the room, she was pointing to a tiny millipede that was crawling by the door. Apparently she calls them Sesame Streets. No idea why!

The social butterfly

We went to the McDonalds play place after school today. Lainey was the social coordinator for all the kids- at one point standing at the bottom o the stairs calling the kids over to play with her. Then she would tell them to take turns and play nicely with each other.
There was a little boy with his ear pierced and she was not sure what to make of it but he was extremely leery of him. She would leave the area when he came in, watch him intently, wait for him to sit back down with his mom before he went back to the slide, and she kept her eye on him at all times.
Now she's yelling "Kid! Hey kid! What's your name? We have to know your name so we can play together!"

Poor Dunkin

This morning she wanted to put "a straddle" (she means saddle, and this was a nylon strap from her play stroller) on Dunkin so one of her babies could ride him around. She got the strap around his neck and he managed to shake it off and run away before she could get the baby tied in. She ran after him and said "Dunkin, we need to talk!"

Gumball machine

We got a gum ball machine for Lainey and told her she has to do chores to earn money to get the gum. Her idea of chores vastly differs from ours, as we expected. this morning instead of throwing away empty Capri Sun packages she left in our room, she opted to put a blanket on Dunkin's bed so he wouldn't get cold.
Oh, and she calls Capri Sun Crappy Sun.

The new boy at school

His name is Braiden and Braiden hits, kicks, and wipes bogies on Lainey. He also throws Aubrey's shoes over the fence. Today Lainey told me that she tries to play with him and be nice, but it's no use because he always ends up being a bad boy. I told her it was good that she keeps trying to play with him but she should tell the teacher when he hits and kicks. And that she should tell him that's not how we do things at her Apple School!

Where does she get this?

She just said "Momma, don't you dare turn off this light, because if you do my babies will get scared and get nightmares. Okay?"

Four Year Immunizations

Lainey had her four year check up today, and she got a vision test and hearing test.  She did really well on the vision test, and we think  she did well on the hearing test, but she didn't quite grasp the concept of telling the nurse when she heard the beeps.  She would just smile whenever she heard it.  The nurse said that was normal, most of the kids don't really understand what they are supposed to do at this age.  When we asked her if she heard the beeps, she said yes- she heard four of them.  So we're fairly certain there are no problems with her hearing!
She's 3 feet 6 inches tall, and weighs 35 lbs.  She's in the 75th percentile for her height and 50th percentile for her weight.
She had one of her ponies with her, of course, and Dr. Abdullah asked her what the pony's name was. When Lainey replied "Apple Jack" he asked her if she was making that up. She drew pictures for him and a couple letters, and Dr. Abdullah was very happy with her progress, and said she's very advanced skill-wise and absolutely average size-wise.
Then she got her shots- three of them.  She did okay on the first two, and the third one hurt her.  You could tell immediately because she got "the look" on her face, and immediately teared up and whimpered.  She never fully cried or hollered, but she had tears rolling down her cheeks.  Luckily she knew she was getting a prize afterward, so that helped.  She's been asking for a certain My Little Pony toy for a while, so I had gotten that for her yesterday and it was waiting in the van for her when we were done.
Jeff was kind enough to go to her appointment with me because he knows I have a hard time taking Lainey to get shots.  It's always nice to have him there to hold Lainey during and after the shots!
The last time Lainey got her MMR shot she had a pretty nasty reaction to it.  The evening after her shot, she was pretty uncomfortable and her legs (where they gave the shots the first time) were hurting her.  Then a week later she broke out in a pretty severe rash.  When Jeff took her to her pediatrician, he said it was probably the most severe rash reaction to the MMR vaccine he'd ever seen, and her doctor brought in all the nurses in his office to show them what a severe rash reaction to the MMR vaccine looked like.  When we told this to Dr. Abdullah today, he said that there wasn't really any way to predict whether or not her body will react the same way, more severely, or not at all.  So we will just have to wait and see, and if she has the rash we are to give her Benedryl.  Last time she had the vaccine and got the rash, she was too young for Benedryl or another antihistamine, so she won't have to suffer through it this time around if she has a reaction.  She's home with me today and so far she's doing great!

An eating thing

She came inside with an acorn and asked me if I knew what was inside. I said no, and she said emphatically "an eating thing!!"

I'm not a wreck

We are shopping in Target and their clothes racks are really close together, so every time I turned the cart I banged into a rack. I told Lainey that I was a wreck and she said "ohhhh Momma! You aren't a wreck, you are my lovely and very beautiful!"
Awwwwww

Robot pony

Well, she's home from school again today with a fever and aches. So she's watching her pony shows while I work. She just walked into my office making strange motions with her hands and arms, so I asked her what that was all about. She said "I am a robot pony, so I can't talk Mom."
Duh.

Tails in the potty

This evening she announced to Jeff and I that she was going to the potty again, and that she was going to remove the tail from her Rainbow Dash costume so it didn't dip in the potty.

Jeff is currently in the doghouse

She told me last night that I was her Lovely. I don't know where she got it, but that's what she's been calling me. Jeff asked her what his nickname was and she promptly replied "Doofis!"
This morning as he was getting her dressed, she said "Did you forget my jackets Jeff?"

Socks come in handy

Lainey likes to ride her pink tricycle around the house barefoot. She told me tonight that the peddles hurt her feet and I found her wrapping the peddles with washcloths. I told her that if she put socks on it would be easier because the washcloths kept coming off.
Instead of wearing the socks on her feet to ride her Hawg, she put the socks on the peddles!

What the heck!

Isaiah from Lainey's school says this all the time, so guess what- now LB does too! She sounds hilarious because her voice will get really high and she says it very pointedly- "What the HECK?!"

Dunkin got an earful

Dunkin got ahold of one of Lainey's toys that she rarely plays with, and she found it this morning.  She got him in her room, got him sitting down in front of the toy, pointed at it, and said "Why did you do that Dunkin?"
He actually looked a little guilty.  So she continued...
She pointed at Dunkin and said "Dunkin, stop chewing on my toys.  If you do that again, I'm GOING TO GET RID OF YOU!"

Spike has green poop

Spike the Dragon (from My Little Pony) has green poop.  Why?  Because his face is green, his spikes are green, and his eyes are green.  So naturally his poop would be green!

She used the word "correctly"

Today she told me that Hayden Morris had stitches in her chin that healed, so there were no more stitches on her chin.  I asked Lainey how Hayden hurt her chin, and Lainey said "She fell because she wasn't sitting in the chair correctly."

She ratted out Miss Petra!

Apparently one of her teachers fell asleep during nap time today, and Lainey totally ratted her out! She said Miss Petra fell asleep in the table at nap time and Miss Karrou shouted at her to wake her up!

Hate

I asked Lainey if she wanted to go to lunch at Jason's Deli.  She said no, she hated it.  I said hate is kind of a yucky word, so lets just say "I don't really care for it" instead.  She replied, "No, I really hate it."
